You do not need to have it all figured out to start. Most people who reach out are somewhere between "I know I need to make a move" and "I have no idea where to begin." Both are completely fine starting points.
These questions come up a lot. If yours is not here, the free intro call is the best place to ask it.
1. What is Pathway Coaching Space?
Pathway Coaching Space is a one-on-one career coaching practice focused on helping early-career and transitioning professionals gain clarity about where they're headed and how to get there. Services include career coaching, resume development, LinkedIn optimization, and interview preparation.
2. Who do you work with?
Primarily two groups: people who are early in their careers and figuring out their direction, and professionals who are transitioning into something new. If you're somewhere in between, the free intro call is the best way to find out if it's a good fit.
3. Who are you, and why should I trust you?
Heather Carpenter (me) has worked across financial services, technology, retail, and food and beverage. Along the way, I have been a manager, visual designer, retail store owner, consultant, and people leader. As a people manager, I found myself doing less managing and more coaching, helping people figure out their direction, build confidence, and take their next step.
I have also navigated layoffs, firings, and more than one "what's next?" moment of her own. That firsthand experience shapes how I coach.
I am a Certified Professional Life Coach through the Certified Life Coach Institute, an ICF-accredited program, and have been coaching clients since January 2025 across career exploration, transition planning, and job search strategy.
I listen more than advise. I help you uncover what you are actually good at and build a strategy around that, not around who you think you are supposed to be.
4. I'm not actively job searching right now. Is coaching still useful for me?
Yes. Some of the most productive coaching happens before the job search begins. If you are exploring what direction makes sense, thinking about a transition, or just feeling restless in your current role, that clarity work is exactly where to start. Knowing what you want and how to talk about it puts you in a much stronger position when you are ready to move.
5. What if I'm feeling defeated or discouraged about my job search?
That's actually where a lot of people start. Discouraged, confused, and wondering if something is wrong with them.
It isn't. The job market is genuinely harder to navigate right now, and silence from employers doesn't mean what most people think it means.
The first thing we do is talk. Not about your resume. About you. What you've done, what you're proud of, what feels hard right now. Most people are sitting on more experience and capability than they realize. Sometimes you just need someone to reflect it back to you in a way that finally makes it land.
From there, we build. But confidence usually comes first.
6. What makes your approach to resumes and LinkedIn different?
Most resumes are job descriptions in disguise. They list titles and responsibilities, but say almost nothing about what you actually did, how you did it, or why it mattered. Recruiters and hiring managers notice that gap immediately.
The work at Pathway Coaching Space is about closing that gap. Together, we dig into what you actually contributed in each role, pull out the achievements and impact you may not think to mention, and translate all of it into language that speaks directly to the job you are going after. Not generic. Not templated. Specific to you and the role.
The goal is that a recruiter or hiring manager reads your resume and immediately understands your value, before they ever talk to you.
7. What does your resume and LinkedIn coaching actually look like in practice?
Most people know they have value. The problem is they're not bringing it forward in a way that's clear, specific, and sounds like them.
When working with clients, the starting point is often understanding their strengths, not just their job history. From there, I use tools like a STAR method worksheet to help clients articulate what they actually did, how they did it, and what the outcome was. That same language then flows into the resume, the LinkedIn profile, and eventually the interview.
The goal isn't a polished document. It's a prepared person.
8. What are CliftonStrengths, and do I need to take the assessment to work with you?
CliftonStrengths is an assessment developed by Gallup that helps you uncover your natural talents. It is one of the tools used in coaching to help you understand what you do well and how to build on it. You do not need to take it to work together. If you are interested, the assessment is purchased separately through Gallup, and we discuss the results as part of your coaching sessions.
9. How is this different from just using AI tools myself?
AI can generate a resume. It cannot tell you which parts of your story actually matter, why your experience is more valuable than you think, or how to sound like yourself instead of a template. The coaching work is about clarity and strategy. AI is one tool in that process, not a replacement for the thinking behind it.
10. Do you use AI tools in your coaching?
Yes, and it's worth being upfront about that. AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot are used to support coaching work and help clients learn how to use these tools themselves. The coaching, the strategy, and the feedback are human. AI helps with efficiency and research. You'll also have access to an 'AI Prompts for Job Seekers' guide as part of working together.
11. What resources do you provide?
Clients have access to a suite of career-readiness resources, including a LinkedIn Profile Guide, Resume Alignment Guide, AI Prompts for Job Seekers Guide, and Resume Template. These are practical tools built to work alongside coaching sessions.
12. What services do you offer and what do they cost?
Career Coaching is $100 per hour, or $75 per hour with a referral. Sessions are personalized around your specific goals, whether that's job search strategy, interview prep, or career planning. Sessions can also include a discussion of your CliftonStrengths assessment to help identify your natural talents. Note: the CliftonStrengths assessment itself is purchased separately through Gallup.
Resume and LinkedIn Review is $80, or $60 with a referral. You get written feedback on what's working, what isn't, and practical steps you can take right away.
Resume and Story Coaching is a four-session package starting at $500, or $450 with a referral. This goes deeper: resume and LinkedIn coaching, help shaping your story, and language you can use in applications and interviews.
13. What is the referral rate and how do I get it?
If someone who has worked with Pathway Coaching Space referred you, or if you came through a community partner, just mention it when you reach out. The referral rate applies automatically.
14. How long does the coaching process take?
It depends on what you need. A resume and LinkedIn review is a one-time service. Career coaching is hourly and flexible. The Resume and Story Coaching package is structured over four or more sessions. During the intro call, you'll get a clearer picture of what timeline makes sense for your goals.
15. Do you work with clients in person or virtually?
All coaching is done virtually, so you can work with Pathway Coaching Space from anywhere.
16. How do I pay?
Payment is accepted via Zelle or Venmo and is due before services begin.
17. What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Life happens, but advance notice helps keep things running smoothly for everyone.
18. Is everything we discuss confidential?
Yes. All sessions and document reviews are confidential. Your personal information and career details are not shared.
19. How do I get started?
